The New York Knicks — literally — fought with every single thing they had.
Tom Thibodeau has a reputation for running his players into the ground by playing them heavy minutes all year long, and particularly in the playoffs, and that was the case again this time around.
However, it wasn’t Thibodeau’s fault this time, as he had already lost several key guys to injuries that weren’t related to being overworked, so it’s not like he had many options to lean on.
That’s why it was only fitting that their season ended with an accidental injury to their best player, Jalen Brunson.
Brunson suffered a fractured hand trying to go for a steal in Game 7 vs. the Indiana Pacers and was immediately ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Now, NBA insider Mark Medina reports that he’s undergone surgery on his left hand and will now be re-evaluated in 6-8 weeks.

Brunson was gassed out and visually exhausted in the game.
The Knicks needed him to score 40 points a night just to have a chance to win.
They were already missing their second-best scorers in Julius Randle, a solid defensive contributor in Mitchell Robinson, and a three-level scorer in Bojan Bogdanovic, all of whom got hurt in-games and not because of Thibodeau’s ways.
OG Anunoby’s hamstring injury could’ve been credited to being overworked.
Whatever the case, this Knicks team looks poised to be very good for a long time, but they still need to add another star and a little more depth.
