The Los Angeles Lakers have work to do this offseason after getting punished by the Denver Nuggets in the postseason two years in a row, and the team has to figure out it’s frontcourt while having limited resources to improve the roster.
The NBA Finals just ended, but the draft is just around the corner next week and the Lakers are reportedly monitoring their options at the center position, which could come into play on draft day.
Knicks insider Ian Begley shared that the Lakers are prioritizing the center position, and said “The Lakers have visited with some top centers in the draft. They have the No. 17 pick in the first round. The Club could also obviously pursue a center in free agency. Adding a traditional big man would, in theory, allow Anthony Davis more opportunity to play power forward alongside a center.”

Anthony Davis has always been adamant about being more of a forward than a center, and a big reason why the Lakers won the title in 2020 was because Davis had Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee playing alongside him.
This draft is already being heralded as one of the worst ever, but there is still plenty of talent to be discovered, particularly at the center position.
It’s a draft where you might be better off picking in the middle of the first round as opposed to the top five, as there is less pressure and more relative value later on.
At No. 17, perhaps Purdue’s Zach Edey could enter the mix.
