The Washington Commanders are starting a new era.
They have a new ownership group in place, along with a new head coach in Dan Quinn and a new quarterback in Jayden Daniels.
For a team to be able to turn around some of their losing ways, they need experience to go along with young talent.
So behind Daniels, they have veteran quarterback Marcus Mariota, who they signed earlier this offseason.
The former Heisman Trophy winner will be wearing the No. 0 in Washington.
“Zero is something that’s just a reminder for me. I’m in year 10. People don’t think I can do it anymore. It’s just kind of a reminder everyday of ‘nobody really gives you a chance.’ And it’s cool to be able to remind yourself,” Mariota said this offseason, per the team’s official site.
Mariota has been both a starting quarterback and a backup in this league for a while.
After being a starter in Tennessee at the beginning of his career, he is about to be on his fifth team in the last six years.
He has played for a lot of coaches and in a lot of different systems.
Playoff experience is also something that he has a little bit of too.
The funny thing is that he and Daniels share the same kind of skill-set.
They are both mobile and have strong arms.
Both can play off-schedule if need be.
Also, they both won the Heisman Trophy, with Daniels taking home the award last year.
This was quietly a great signing for the Commanders because of everything Mariota brings to the table.
