The Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers just made one of the most surprising moves of the offseason.
Shortly after the Steelers agreed to sign Russell Wilson to compete with Kenny Pickett, the Pittsburgh product chose not to partake in this competition.
Pickett reportedly requested to be traded, landing with the Eagles.
That’s why ESPN analyst Mike Greenberg questioned his reasoning, as he clearly had a better chance to beat an aging veteran playing for the team that took him in the first round than doing so on a team with Jalen Hurts and his big contract.
“I struggle to understand his thinking. Pickett has a much better chance of beating out Russell Wilson for a team that drafted him in the first round than beating out Jalen Hurts on a team that didn’t,” Greenberg tweeted.

That makes perfect sense.
The Eagles are going to give Hurts every single chance possible to succeed and they’re not going to put Pickett over him in the pecking order any time soon.
The Steelers brought in Arthur Smith hoping that he could bring the best out of him, and a little competition with Wilson could’ve been the catalyst he needed to be at his best.
If Wilson didn’t hit the ground running, he could’ve beaten him for the job.
Worst case-scenario, he could’ve stayed there for one or two years learning the game behind a proven veteran and then taking the reins of the team.
Now, he’s not likely to see the field at all, as the Eagles are heavily invested in Hurts.
This could be the end of the line for the former first-round pick, and the Steelers now definitely need to make things work with Wilson.
