Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani entered the All-Star break with a league-leading 32 home runs.
He hit two more in the first weekend of the second half, and seems determined to establish a new career-best in the stat.
In fact, the two-way phenom has already matched his total from last year, as noted by MLB insider Bob Nightengale.
“Shohei Ohtani has hit as many homers this year (34) as he did all of last year. His career high is 46. He is on pace for 59,” Nightengale tweeted.

That’s an incredible power pace.
If he increases his pace a bit, he has a chance to match or surpass Aaron Judge’s 62 home runs from last year.
That would be unbelievable.
As of Monday afternoon, the 2021 AL MVP is hitting .301/.386/.665 with the 34 round-trippers, 67 runs scored, 73 RBI, and even 11 stolen bases.
His OPS is a cool 1.051, and he seems on his way to this second career AL MVP award.
There is no one in the junior circuit who comes even close to what he has done because he has also been the Angels’ ace.
You could say that even if he is traded to a National League team, he would be the heavy favorite to win the MVP award in the American League.
His contributions have been way too large and significant for him to lose the award at this point.
In the process, he has made himself a lot of money: he will be a free agent after the year and is set to sign the largest contract in the history of professional sports.
