The St. Louis Cardinals have seemingly dug themselves into an insurmountable hole with an uncharacteristically bad first half of this season.
Entering their weekend series against the Chicago White Sox, they own a record of 36-51 and sit in a double-digit hole in both the Wild Card and NL Central races.
The entire organization is in disarray from the front office down to the players on the roster.
On Thursday, before their win against the Miami Marlins, St. Louis native and MLB Network host Greg Amsinger talked about what has gone wrong for the Cardinals and why everything they have tried is ultimately failing.
Greg Amsinger didn’t mince words when asked: The blame for the 2023 #STLCards is entirely on the FO.
Greg joined #TheOpeningDrive & got into holding Mo accountable, the season hitting a “mind-boggling” new low & at least one bright spot.

Amsinger stated that the front office of the Cardinals is largely to blame for the team’s struggles, as the coaching staff is essentially doing what the front office tells them to do.
Meanwhile, President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak seems to prefer managers that completely fall in line with his plan.
Amsinger talked about the beauty of “old-school baseball management,” where managers and coaches have more of a say in what direction the organization should go.
The MLB Network host then criticized the Cardinals organization for not having the checks and balances necessary for organizational harmony, and managing the team with spreadsheets and analytics.
Amsinger says it’s good that everybody is on the same page, but that there’s one problem.
That “page” has incorrect intel and information every single game.
However, the Cardinals continue to follow their spreadsheets, which have gotten them nowhere in 2023 and have them in a perilous position.
