NBA Analyst Adds Context To Monty Williams’ Massive Deal

It’s not often that an NBA coach earns a contract as big as the one Monty Williams just got from the Detroit Pistons.

Reports say that Williams agreed to a six-year, $78.5 million contract with the Pistons.

That is the largest coaching deal in NBA history.

Additionally, he could be making $20 million more over the years due to incentives.

NBA analyst Keith Smith said that Williams will be earning an average of $13.08 million a year with this new contract.

That means if he were a player, his salary would rank 104th among NBA stars.

He’d be behind Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves and just ahead of Wendell Carter Jr of the Orlando Magic.

Monty Williams’ will reportedly make $13.08M AAV to coach the Pistons.

That salary would currently fall at 104th among players for next season.

Detroit’s offer to Williams was a huge statement – and a sign that they are attempting to turn a corner and become true competitors.

They are essentially telling Williams that they want him to do in Detroit what he did in Phoenix.

Williams has his work cut out for him and the expectations are very high.

The Pistons already had a few promising up-and-coming stars on the roster and were seen as a team to watch in the years ahead.

But now people are going to want a lot more from them since Williams has come on board with such a huge salary and much fanfare.

Williams knows a thing or two about lofty expectations.

Back in February, his Suns acquired Kevin Durant in a monster trade that shook the league.

People immediately thought they’d be in the Finals.

They weren’t, of course, and shortly after their postseason defeat, Williams lost his job.

The pressure isn’t as high in Detroit.

But the front office will definitely want results for such a massive salary.
