Not so long ago, the Brooklyn Nets looked poised to become the next powerhouse in the Eastern Conference.
Now, in hindsight, committing to Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden was the worst decision they could’ve made.
This was even worse than when they traded for aging Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, and it may have set the franchise back years.
That’s why team owner Joe Tsai knows this situation is just unsustainable.
As shared by Evan Sidery, Tsai recently revealed that the team would go in a different direction, looking to build for the future as opposed to trying to compete right away.
Nets owner Joe Tsai said yesterday the franchise is “at a crossroads” with their long-term direction (via @NetsPressIG).
Tsai mentioned Brooklyn’s roster will be revamped this offseason to compete “in the long run” rather than win immediately.

With that in mind, multiple teams could look to keep an eye on Mikal Bridges, their lone star player.
The Nets reportedly turned down a very lucrative deal for the former Phoenix Suns star, but they might not be in the same position anymore.
Sidery adds that the Houston Rockets could agree to give them their picks from the Harden deal back in return for the Suns’ picks, and that might be the wisest decision for Brooklyn.
Despite playing in a big market, the Nets aren’t the most popular team there, and they’re not an appealing free-agent destination right now, either.
So, with the NBA Draft being their best shot at building a good team right now, and Nic Claxton set to walk away as a free agent, perhaps moving on from Bridges might be the only way they’ll be able to overcome this tough situation.
