During the last two decades, the NFL has really placed an emphasis on spreading the fandom of their league around the entire globe.
Regular-season games have been played in England and Mexico during the last few years, and last season, the NFL held its first regular-season game in Germany.
More regular-season matchups are set to take place in England and Germany this year, but will any of this ever result in a team calling an overseas location their permanent home?
This is something that NFL Executive VP Peter O’Reilly discussed on a recent episode of “The Adam Schefter Podcast.”
“It’s complicated. There’s nothing imminent there, and when you think about competitive dynamics, making sure it’s fair, you know logistical dynamics, there’s a lot more to still be worked through there. But the fact that we’re having this conversation, shows that the fandom is there, and the support is there, knowing there are a lot of complications.”

This season, the NFL will hold three games in England, with the first matchup set to have the Atlanta Falcons taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, October 1, from inside the legendary Wembley Stadium.
Then, on October 8, the Jaguars will remain in England to take on the Buffalo Bills inside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and lastly, the Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans will also face off inside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during a game on Sunday, October 15.
The NFL will also be holding two regular-season games in Germany this year after only having one matchup on German soil in 2022.
Taking place in Germany’s Deutsche Bank Park this season will be a November 5 contest between the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs, and then on November 12, the Indianapolis Colts will go up against the New England Patriots.
Between the Jaguars and Bills playing in London and the Dolphins and Chiefs meeting in Germany, it’s looking like the NFL’s international fan base should be getting some pretty exciting matchups this season.
