The Washington Commanders haven’t exactly been a successful franchise as of late.
Poor coaching, terrible decision-making, a toxic workplace culture, and a lack of winning have doomed the franchise to a mediocrity spiral.
But as we’ve already seen multiple times with other teams, sometimes, all it takes is one guy to turn things around and straighten the ship once and for all.
That guy could’ve been Lamar Jackson, who’s desperately trying to get out of Baltimore, but it seems like that won’t be the case.
According to Ron Rivera, the Commanders didn’t even consider the possibility of signing/trading for Jackson, citing that they see plenty of Brock Purdy in Sam Howell.
#Commanders coach Ron Rivera discussing his QB, says he believes Sam Howell has many of the same qualities of Brock Purdy. … As for adding a high-money QB (Lamar Jackson), he says they never looked into it. “I know he’s a tremendous talent.” But it wasn’t for them.

Needless to say, those comments raised some uproar on social media, as fans simply couldn’t believe their eyes.
Never looked into it. Nice.

Trent Williams protecting the blindside, too.
But how is Washington ever supposed to find a player like him?

Why isn’t it for them? This is ridiculous. He’s one of the best qbs in the league and their roster is stacked outside of QB. Having Lamar would put them up with the best teams in the NFC. Instead, they’d rather go with Howell who more than likely will suck. It makes no sense.

They don’t even have free coffee

Wishing and praying your QB turns out to be Brock Purdy as if he’s the model of the position is hilarious.

Nonetheless, this is right on point with the Commanders.
They overpaid for an aging Alex Smith and then gave up multiple assets and cap space to get Carson Wentz, just to later bench him for Taylor Heinicke.
This is the same team that failed to protect Robert Griffin III and ended his career before he could reach his true potential.
And not to take a shot at Purdy, who actually had a remarkable start to his career, but maybe the standard they should aim for is the former MVP, not the last pick of the NFL Draft who only has a handful of starts under his belt.
This team is lost, and they may stay lost for a very long time.
