After a disappointing 2023 NFL season, the Jacksonville Jaguars have not helped themselves much during free agency.
The Jaguars appeared to be the frontrunners to re-sign Calvin Ridley before the wide receiver turned around and signed a four-year deal with the Tennessee Titans instead.
Ridley was reportedly mulling offers between the New England Patriots and Jacksonville, but Tennessee came in at the last minute with an offer that he couldn’t refuse.
Without Ridley, the Jaguars’ receiver room is severely lacking in talent and depth and they’ll need to find a way to address those needs either via free agency or the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.
Although Jacksonville did manage to sign Gabe Davis, they’ll need more weapons in the passing game to help out Trevor Lawrence.
However, Nick Wright believes the organization has done a disservice to Lawrence, per his show “What’s Wright? with Nick Wright.”
“The Jags have let Trevor Lawrence down,” Wright said.

He argues that without Ridley, Jacksonville doesn’t have a true No. 1 receiver that Lawrence can lean on during games.
Davis was a solid add, but isn’t an X-receiver like Ridley is and thus would be playing above his normal role.
The Jaguars do own a first-round pick in the draft and this year’s class is full of receivers that teams can build offenses around, so perhaps they decide to address their need there.
It’s hard to judge the team’s offseason at this juncture as there are still plenty of opportunities to improve the roster in the coming months, but Lawrence will need more support on both sides of the field if he wants to be successful in 2024.
