Over the history of the Boston Celtics franchise, the team has produced many legendary players, from Bill Russell and Bob Cousy to John Havlicek and Dave Cowens to Kevin McHale and Larry Bird and, more recently, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce.
Needless to say, there’s no shortage of legends throughout the history of the franchise, with most of these legends more than likely bumping into one another at some time or another at a team function.
However, interestingly enough, Pierce, who won a title with the Celtics playing alongside Garnett in 2008, has yet to meet Bird, as he admitted on “Undisputed” with Skip Bayless and Keyshawn Johnson recently.
“He never came around Boston,” Pierce said. “I think he had a lot of issues with the former owners, and he just never really came back to Boston. That’s why he had the job in Indiana as a coach and as a general manager or president, and that was home for him.”

This is a surprising admission by Pierce, as Bird’s era wasn’t too far off from the former Kansas star’s in Boston, which would make one think there’s no way their paths didn’t cross at some point.
Ironically enough, the two Celtics legends have yet to have a conversation and reminisce about their time with the stored franchise, but as Pierce pointed out, Bird might have a bad taste in his mouth when it comes to those who were running the franchise, and it is something that was never fixed, which is a shame.
