After over two decades with legendary head coach Bill Belichick at the helm of the New England Patriots, the storied franchise is headed in a different direction, with Jerod Mayo being the new leader on the sidelines and the team taking on a new philosophy.
With the Belichick era now in the past, Mayo and company will try to rebuild this team as quickly as possible to get the Patriots back in contention soon, but it won’t be easy, as there are many areas to address moving forward.
Fortunately for New England, the team may have found their new franchise quarterback, with the team bringing in Drake Maye out of the University of North Carolina with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Although quarterback has been addressed, which is arguably the toughest position to get right in the NFL, New England still needs to address the defensive side of the football.
Apparently, PFF believes that the Patriots need to make another move on defense before the upcoming 2024 NFL season, which is bringing in a safety (via Carlos Talks Pats on Twitter).

Add Another Safety
They are definitely in need for a true free safety, but I trust that someone in the current room could fill that role. pic.twitter.com/S9QzA8WVhU

As of right now, the Patriots have Kyle Dugger as the team’s starting strong safety, along with Jabrill Peppers at free safety, which isn’t all that bad.
It is uncertain at this point in time whether the Patriots are willing to spend money during this rebuilding period, but if the team isn’t willing to pay a hefty sum for a veteran, Justin Simmons is still available, along with a few other notable names like Jamal Adams and Micah Hyde.
