Pittsburgh Pirates star Andrew McCutchen signed a one-year deal before the season to play in front of the fans that showed him so much love and respect over the years.
He blossomed into a star in Pittsburgh, so one last stint there made all the sense in the world.
He enjoyed a productive year in a Pirates uniform, but he won’t be able to finish out the season on the field.
“Andrew McCutchen is going on the 10-day IL due to a left Achilles partial tear. He will be in a walking boot for approximately six weeks. There are a little under four weeks left in the season,” Pirates insider Justice De Los Santos tweeted.

Achilles tears are possibly one of the worst injuries in professional sports.
Even though it wasn’t a full tear, he will be using a walking boot for six weeks and the regular season ends before that point.
Nobody knows what the future holds for McCutchen, but if he decides to hang up his cleats, he would have completed an amazing career that included an MVP award, multiple postseason berths with the Pirates, three Silver Slugger awards, and five All-Star berths.
He showed in 2023 that he can still be a productive player, with 12 home runs and a .776 OPS in 473 plate appearances.
Hopefully his recovery is smooth and he can say goodbye to fans on the field, doing what he does best.
