The Golden State Warriors took a hard stance on Klay Thompson and a potential contract extension.
Both parties were unable to reach a deal in the offseason, with there being a ‘significant gap’ between the money he wanted and what they were willing to offer.
Thompson then decided to bet on himself and earn his money this season, but that hasn’t been the case thus far.
He’s changed his stance and has agreed to embrace a lesser role with the team, and he’s already been vocal about his desire to stay with the team for his entire career, even if that means making sacrifices.
Nonetheless, he could be facing a bit of a conundrum in free agency.
According to a report by Tim Kawakami of The Athletic, one of the league’s ‘worst kept secrets’ is that the Orlando Magic could look to give him a significant and lucrative deal in free agency (Via NBA Central).
“One of the worst-kept secrets in the league is that Orlando, loaded with young talent but not with shooters, might offer Klay a ton of money next summer.”

The Magic have been linked with Thompson for quite a while now.
They do have a surplus of young talent and a bit of a logjam in the backcourt, but they don’t have a lot of shooting.
Shooting is what Thompson does best, and having him in a role similar to Ray Allen with the Miami Heat could unleash this team’s true potential.
The Magic are in a position to overpay for veterans because most of their players are still on rookie deals.
Now, whether the Warriors will be able or willing to match that offer or if Thompson will take less to stay in the Bay area remains to be seen.
