The Minnesota Vikings have a new quarterback, and he might be ready to take the field right out of the gate.
While there were plenty of mixed reviews about J.J. McCarthy, the fact that he played under an NFL-like system with Jim Harbaugh, and that he’s also starting from scratch in a new offense like his primary competitor for the job make him a strong candidate to start right away.
With that in mind, former NFL QB Robert Griffin III states that he wouldn’t be shocked if he were to beat Sam Darnold out for the QB1 job.
But if that’s not the case, he still sees him taking the field this very next season.
In the latest edition of his podcast, the former Washington star stated that he would give McCarthy the nod in Week 7 after their bye week.
Week 7 after the Bye Week is the perfect time for the @Vikings to start JJ McCarthy, if he doesn’t beat out Sam Darnold before the season.#Skol #GoBlue pic.twitter.com/qv10z1kh0z

He claimed that the Vikings have no business starting him vs. the New York Jets in London.
And while facing the Detroit Lions won’t get much easier, he thinks the setting would be perfect for him because he’d get an extra week of preparation and would get to play in front of his home crowd.
The Vikings have one of the most QB-friendly systems in the league, not to mention a solid set of weapons and perhaps the best wide receiver in the game.
They’re already paying Darnold $10 million, but if they see that their future franchise quarterback is ready, there’s no reason to delay the inevitable any further.
