After spending his first six seasons in the NFL with the New York Giants, veteran running back Saquon Barkley decided it was time for a change, as he chose to sign with the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles with NFL free agency getting underway this week.
Although Barkley was expected to have no shortage of suitors when he became a free agent, the Eagles didn’t seem like a top choice for the veteran back, especially with all the buzz about him being the top target for the upstart Houston Texans.
However, the Eagles had a need at the running back position, with D’Andre Swift agreeing to sign with the Chicago Bears in free agency.
With the news surfacing that Barkley would sign with the Eagles, the 27-year-old took to Twitter to thank his fans over his past six years in the NFL with the Giants.

Interestingly enough, Barkley doesn’t mention the Giants or anyone within the organization in this tweet in which he says goodbye to his fans in New York, which might be a telling sign that things didn’t end well in the Big Apple.
Despite a potentially ugly divorce between Barkley and the Giants, the two-time Pro Bowler has an ideal opportunity to start fresh with the Eagles and compete for a Super Bowl title right out of the gate, as long as Philadelphia can bounce back next season.
The addition of Barkley is definitely a step in the right direction for the Eagles, as Philadelphia could have one of the best offenses right out of the gate in the 2024 campaign.
