Sergio Romo may be one of the more underrated pieces of the San Francisco Giants’ World Series runs in 2010, 2012, and 2014.

San Francisco won three World Series titles in five years, with Romo as a key member of the team’s bullpen, even serving as the closer in 2012 when Brian Wilson went down.

The 40-year-old signed a minor league deal with the Giants this spring and appeared in one last game in front of the fans at Oracle Park as the team played host to the Oakland Athletics.

After a facing a few batters, he was removed from the game by Giants legend and former teammate Hunter Pence.

Pence rallied the crowd and hugged Romo as he walked off the mound to a standing ovation.

Romo returned to the Giants dugout and received hugs from his teammates and coaching staff.

And with tears in his eyes, he tipped his cap to the San Francisco faithful one last time.

Romo spent 15 seasons in Major League Baseball.

Over those 15 seasons, he posted a 3.21 ERA in 821 appearances.

He also saved 137 games.

The veteran right-hander spent most of his career in San Francisco, but also made brief stops with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Tampa Bay Rays, Miami Marlins, Minnesota Twins, Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners, and Toronto Blue Jays.

However, it was only fitting that he spent the final moments of his career with the team that had drafted and developed him.

Romo’s best years came in San Francisco.

And so, it was the perfect storybook ending to a solid career.
