The Dallas Mavericks were supposed to be one of the dark horses out of the Western Conference this season, especially after trading for Kyrie Irving.
They would have two potential 30-point scorers in the backcourt, one of the most explosive scoring duos in the Association, and two top-tier talents leading the way.
But Luka Doncic has been a shell of himself since Irving arrived, either because of fatigue or because they haven’t developed any sort of chemistry yet.
Whatever the case, the Mavericks are reportedly considering shutting them down for the final three games of the season in an attempt to pursue a top-10 pick.
This is a blatant failure after they were reportedly aiming to make a deep postseason run, and Shannon Sharpe believes it’s a terrible look for the organization.

But then again, the Mavs made their bed, so it’s only normal that they lay in it.
Adding Kyrie was the ultimate high-risk/high-reward move, and it had nothing to do with his volatile personality.
The Mavs could be thinking about the long run, and they could actually build a very competitive roster around their two stars.
But they would first need to have some sort of commitment from Kyrie for the future, and that’s not likely to happen, at least for the next couple of months.
