The Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves will square off in one of the most exciting and unpredictable postseason series in recent history.

More than that, for the first time in years, we’re going to see two stout defensive teams going at each other.

Nonetheless, as tough as this could be to predict, Stephen A. Smith believes the Timberwolves could have an edge.

Talking on ESPN’s “First Take,” Smith gave the Mavericks their flowers.

He claimed that P.J. Washington and Daniel Gafford’s additions were quite positive, not to mention the fact that they have two legitimate stars in Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, who’s even playing defense.

Still, he thinks the Timberwolves are playing historically great defense, which is why he gives them the nod.

Smith claimed that the Timberwolves are playing some of the best defense he’s seen in the past three decades.

Also, as much as Washington and Gafford have been a factor, the Timberwolves have plenty of size at every single position but point guard, and they have one of the biggest and most physical frontcourts in the game.

At the end of the day, this series will be an epic chess match.

Anthony Edwards and Doncic are two of the young faces of the league and two stars looking to take another step in their development, and anything can happen at this point.

Whoever wins, we can be sure about one thing: This series should go the distance and be one of the most entertaining to watch in quite a while.
