The Chicago Bears, who have struggled for most of the last 35 years or so, now find themselves in an enviable position.
They have a talented team on both sides of the football, and they have the No. 1 pick in this week’s NFL Draft, which they will presumably use on University of Southern California quarterback Caleb Williams.
They also have the No. 9 pick, and Albert Breer says other teams believe they may trade down in order to recoup a little more capital later in the draft, although they could also use that No. 9 pick on one of the talented wide receivers this year, per JPAFootball.

The Bears acquired this year’s No. 1 pick by trading last year’s No. 1 pick to the Carolina Panthers in a deal that also netted them stud wide receiver DJ Moore.
They also signed six-time Pro Bowl wideout Keenan Allen this offseason, and they suddenly have a legitimate duo at that position.
This year’s draft class features a terrific trio at wideout: Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers, and Rome Odunze, and taking one of them at No. 9 would give Chicago an embarrassment of riches, not to mention an heir apparent for the 31-year-old Allen.
It would put Williams in an environment that could greatly fast-track his development and success, given he is taken at No. 1.
The Bears haven’t won a playoff game since the 2010 season, but it looks like they’re well on their way to breaking that drought relatively soon.
