The New York Mets have had a very difficult first half after having spent a ton of money during the offseason.

As we move closer to the All-Star break, New York owns a record of 41-46.

However, they appear to be heating up.

On Thursday night, they won their fifth consecutive game and sixth in their last 10 contests.

They got a strong starting pitching performance from veteran right-hander Carlos Carrasco as they downed the Arizona Diamondbacks by a final score of 9-0.

Carrasco went six innings, and the Mets are now 26-4 this year in games where their starters have given them at least six.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today tweeted this interesting fact.

The Mets have a solid group of starters that includes Kodai Senga, Justin Verlander, and Max Scherzer in addition to Carrasco.

The season has not gone according to plan thus far.

However, with their starters heating up, the team is playing some better baseball.

They also have won all five of their games in the month of July.

While they remain 17.5 games back of first place in the NL East, they are now down to just 6.5 games back of the third and final Wild Card spot, which is currently occupied by the defending National League champion Philadelphia Phillies.

The starting pitching has been much better for the Mets as they look to get back into the postseason chase.

New York won 101 games last year and earned the top Wild Card spot in the NL.
