The Carolina Panthers made a huge gamble when they sent a haul of draft assets to the Chicago Bears last year to take Bryce Young first overall in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Carolina was desperate for a franchise quarterback after years of toiling through bridge options and Young represented a chance to rebuild the roster earnestly.
However, the former Alabama star’s rookie year was severely underwhelming, though it was hard to blame him as the roster around was not set up for him to succeed.
Young found himself under constant pressure behind a poor offensive line, while his receiving options struggled to get open and give him easy throwing windows.
The Panthers responded properly this offseason, investing in the interior of the offensive line and acquiring players like Diontae Johnson and drafting Xavier Legette to give him legitimate throwing options.
Ahead of his sophomore season, the league posted a hype video on Twitter of Young, featuring some of his rookie-year highlights.

In the video, it’s easy to see why the Panthers were enamored with Young because he has a good feel for the pocket and can make throws when given sufficient protection up front.
There are also some high-quality reads in the offense that lend some optimism that Year 2 will go a lot better than Year 1.
It’s far too early to consider Young a bust given that he didn’t have the needed support in his rookie season, but he’ll need to prove doubters wrong this upcoming year regardless.
