The Minnesota Timberwolves aren’t wasting any time with the start of NBA free agency less than a week away, as the team has made one of the first moves in the league by agreeing to bring back center Naz Reid.
Reid was expected to draw a lot of interest on the open market after having his best NBA season yet for the Timberwolves, but it appears both sides wanted to get something done before free agency got underway next week.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Timberwolves and Reid have come to terms on a new three-year contract worth $42 million, with the last year being a player option.

Although Reid isn’t considered among the elite players at the center position in the league, he is a solid option for any team and would’ve drawn considerable interest had he tested the free-agent waters.
That said, the Timberwolves made a solid move here to keep their frontcourt as formidable as it was last season, with Rudy Gobert’s backup at center staying in Minnesota for a bit longer.
The Timberwolves are one of the few teams in the league looking to keep their core intact, with the next major order of business being to sign rising star Anthony Edwards to a lucrative long-term deal.
Edwards is set to make $13.5 million next season, which is a team option, and the consensus is that Minnesota does not want him hitting free agency or even thinking about going elsewhere, as he is one of the best young players in the NBA today.
