Buffalo Bills kicker Tyler Bass is the most recent franchise pariah after he missed a 44-yard field goal with less than two minutes left in the AFC divisional round, which effectively sealed the win for the Kansas City Chiefs and a trip to the conference championship game.
Bass’ attempt went wide right – a term many Bills fans know all too well after Scott Norwood’s field-goal attempt missed its mark in Super Bowl XXV to deliver the win to the New York Giants in 1991.
So while the Bills are headed to the offseason without an AFC title or Super Bowl appearance, Bass appears to be taking a break from social media after he deleted his Instagram account (via Trainwreck Sports).

This decision is likely the correct one for Bass, as fans flocked to social media to decry the Bills’ kicker following another devastating playoff defeat for Buffalo.
Bass had been pretty solid as a kicker for the Bills recently but couldn’t connect on arguably the most important field-goal attempt of his career.
Whether or not that miss will end Bass’ tenure in Buffalo remains to be seen, but the Bills have a lot more issues to worry about than kicker for the 2024 season.
Quarterback Josh Allen has looked better recently but missed some throws, while the Bills’ receivers dropped some crucial passes and the defense gave up some big plays as well.
Bass will inevitably be the scapegoat for many, though, which makes his social media exodus all the more reasonable.

However, it is virtually all done with tongues rooted solidly in cheeks, and everyone has absolutely nothing but absolutely love for his or her friendly neighborhood scapegoat. The truth is, he is not just a pushover. He is basically that special variety of person strong enough to take all of that good natured ribbing for exactly what it is.
