The 2022-23 NBA regular season is now in the books, and it was a very dismal one for the rebuilding Houston Rockets.
They finished with a 22-60 record, which was tied for the worst mark in the Western Conference, and they finished 27th in offensive rating and 29th in defensive rating.
Seemingly the only hope Rockets fans can cling to right now is the possibility of their team getting the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft and therefore winning the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes.
However, Houston already does have a promising young big man in Alperen Sengun, who just finished his second season in the pros.
His sophomore season mixtape looks pretty impressive and reveals a player who can become significantly better than he already is.

Sengun averaged 14.8 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.9 blocked shots per game this season while shooting 55.3 percent from the field.
He was the No. 16 pick in the 2021 draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Rockets thought highly enough of him to send two first-round picks to Oklahoma City for his rights.
The Rockets then signed him to a three-year contract that summer that could keep him in the fold through the 2024-25 season.
With other young players such as guards Kevin Porter Jr. and Jalen Green, they have a decent young core to build around for the next few years.
Of course, adding Wembanyama, who has been described as a once-in-a-generation phenom who has guard skills at 7-foot-2, would greatly raise the ultimate ceiling of that core in the years to come.
