The Pittsburgh Pirates had the first pick in this year’s Major League Baseball Draft.
With that first pick, they selected LSU’s ace in pitcher Paul Skenes.
The right-hander helped pitch LSU to a College World Series championship this summer.
He began his collegiate career at Air Force in 2021 and was there through the 2022 season.
Skenes transferred to LSU for the 2023 season.
But as the first overall pick, Skenes got to experience a truly special moment on Sunday.
When Commissioner Rob Manfred announced Skenes as the first overall pick, footage emerged of Skenes in his living room with his family and friends, which showed him celebrating the moment with those he loved.
MLB posted the footage on Twitter.

This is certainly a moment Skenes will never forget.
This past season at LSU, the 21-year-old went 12-2 with a 1.69 ERA in 19 starts.
Now, he finds himself a part of the Pirates organization after being selected by the team with the first pick.
But the moment he experienced on Sunday night with his friends and family is certainly a special one.
The video shows his friends and family congratulating Skenes, clapping for him and patting him on the shoulder for his most recent accomplishment.
Pittsburgh had the luxury of having the first overall pick, and they ultimately decided on Skenes as their top pick.
As a result, Skenes and his family got to experience a truly special moment, one that they’ll never forget.
Now, the baseball world will watch Skenes very closely as he rises through the Pirates system.
