The San Francisco 49ers have a quarterback dilemma for the second straight offseason, as starter Brock Purdy is recovering from surgery on a torn UCL in his throwing elbow, and there are again calls from some for Trey Lance to be the starter.
But other than that, the team’s fanbase has a lot to be excited about ahead of the 2023 season.
One of the things to be excited about is the fact that star running back Christian McCaffrey, who was acquired via trade in October, will have a full offseason and training camp with San Francisco.

Prior to McCaffrey’s debut as a 49er in Week 7, the team had an anemic running game, which was partly due to an injury that had sidelined Elijah Mitchell, the team’s previous RB1.
San Francisco had lots of trouble doing anything with its running game that went beyond three yards and a cloud of dust.
But McCaffrey transformed the 49ers’ ground attack, as well as its overall offense.
He posted 746 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground in 11 regular season games with them, and they finished the season sixth in points and fifth in total yards despite their early struggles.
McCaffrey is also an excellent dual-threat back who gave the Niners 464 yards and four touchdowns through the air in 2022.
He is easily the team’s best running back since the days of Frank Gore, and he will be a huge key to its chances of winning a sixth Super Bowl next season.
