The Cleveland Cavaliers shook up their team on Thursday morning when they fired head coach J.B. Bickerstaff.
But how many more changes will be coming to the team this summer?
More specifically, will the team lose Donovan Mitchell and what will happen if they do?
On ESPN Cleveland, Brian Windhorst said that even if the Cavaliers don’t make a new deal with Mitchell, they will not start a rebuilding process.
Instead, they would likely just make a trade to improve the team’s chances in 2024-25.
“Even if Donovan doesn’t extend, they’re not going to rebuild, they would look to make a trade…,” – @WindhorstESPN. pic.twitter.com/ru4gde3udU

Of course, the team’s number one goal is to get Mitchell back to the team for the next season and beyond.
After months of speculation and rumors, there is now a growing belief that the team will be able to sign Mitchell to a contract extension.
But if those plans fall through, the Cavaliers aren’t going to enter a full-on rebuilding mode.
Other teams might not make that choice and they would use the loss of Mitchell as an opportunity to break the team apart and essentially build it back up from scratch.
But the Cavaliers obviously believe they have enough talent to push forward even without Mitchell.
If they can’t extend Mitchell, who would be traded from the Cavaliers, and who would the team get in return?
How would they improve the roster even without their biggest star?
Now that Bickerstaff is gone, fans are waiting to see who replaces him and how the front office convinces Mitchell to stay.
There should be more news coming out of Cleveland soon.
