Once again, the Los Angeles Lakers will be watching the NBA Finals from home.
It’s been four years since the Purple & Gold last made it to the ultimate stage, and judging by the state of the team, it might be a while before that happens again.
Needless to say, every single Lakers player would do anything to be the Dallas Mavericks and represent the Western Conference in the NBA Finals right now.
However, even though they’re conference foes, they would still rather have them winning a ring over the Boston Celtics.
That’s why it wasn’t much of a surprise to see Lakers guard Austin Reaves choose the Mavs over Joe Mazzulla’s team, simply stating that he just couldn’t pick Boston (Via Daniel Starkand).
Austin Reaves did a Zoom call with media today to talk about playing in the American Century Championship golf tournament next month. He also gave us his NBA Finals pick:
“I gotta go Dallas just because I can’t choose Boston.”

That’s just the way it is, and he knows he would’ve faced plenty of backlash if he had stated otherwise.
The Lakers and Celtics just don’t like each other; it’s been that way since the dawn of basketball, and it’s going to be that way until the end of time.
They’re tied for the most championships in NBA history with 17 apiece, and it’s not even close with the rest of the league.
Needless to say, both teams are always under an obligation to compete at the highest level and fight for an NBA championship, even when their rosters aren’t that good.
So, having the Celtics one-up the Lakers in titles again would only put even more pressure on a team that’s not ready to fight for a championship, not even with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
