For most of their history, the Los Angeles Lakers have had nothing but the best players in the league.

Their long history of superstars dates all the way back to Minnesota with George Mikan.

Then, in Los Angeles, they had Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, James Worthy, Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, and now LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Like Magic, Kobe managed to win five championships with the team.

However, he did it with two different cores, whereas Magic did it with mostly the same guys.

Talking about that, former Lakers star Byron Scott went as far as to say that the 1987-88 Lakers team was the greatest of all time.

He sat down with Keyshawn Johnson for his “All Facts No Brakes” podcast, stating that even though the 73-9 Golden State Warriors were great, they didn’t cap it off with a championship.

He also believes that, unlike the Warriors with Kevin Durant, the fact that most of that Lakers team was built through the NBA Draft made them better.

That’s kind of true, but Kareem Abdul-Jabbar made his way to Los Angeles via trade, so it’s not that different from Durant signing as a free agent, as the Warriors drafted Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Harrison Barnes.

Whatever the case, no one can deny the fact that the 1988 version of the Showtime Lakers was one of the best teams ever.

Magic, Kareem, Worthy, AC Green, Mychal Thompson, Scott, and Michael Cooper left a permanent mark on Lakers basketball.
