The Boston Celtics spent plenty of money to get to this point.
Just last offseason, they got some heat for making Jaylen Brown the highest-paid player in NBA history.
Brown had checked all the boxes to be eligible for such an extension, and he wasn’t to blame for the state of the market, not to mention the CBA.
Also, the Celtics couldn’t take any risks, as he could’ve eventually chosen not to sign a contract extension and force a trade if they hadn’t offered him the max.
Now, they’re going to do the same with their other franchise star.
According to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Brad Stevens is ready to sign Jayson Tatum to a five-year extension worth a whopping $315 million (via Evan Sidery).
The Celtics will soon present Jayson Tatum a five-year, $315 million extension, per @wojespn.

With that deal, Tatum would have the highest average salary in the league, at $63 million a year.
Of course, this is far from a surprise, and chances are Tatum would’ve gotten this extension regardless of how this season went.
He’s always been the pillar of their project, and by no means would they risk that by not giving him as much money as he was eligible for.
Analysts questioned the Celtics’ ability to have a good roster with two players getting that much money.
But even if they’re never able to win another ring together — which seems fairly unlikely — they’ve already paid them back by bringing a title to the city of Boston after 16 years.
Now, they have to break the bank.
