Today is a sad day for NBA fans, as it was announced that the Emmy-winning show “Inside The NBA” has its future is in flux and will reportedly be ending after next season along with TNT’s NBA broadcasts given the latest media rights deals.
Charles Barkley appeared on SiriusXM NBA Radio to discuss the show’s future, particularly that of host Ernie Johnson, via NBACentral.
Barkley said during his appearance that he expects Ernie to retire sooner than later and doesn’t believe he will leave TNT for NBC, saying, “It sucks right now for the people I work with” and added, “200 people are going to lose their jobs at Turner.”

Barkley joked that he is 61 and has more than enough money to retire and that he “loves doing nothing” and doesn’t look at it as getting fired, and instead sees it as being able to golf more.
Barkley was adamant he couldn’t see Ernie going to another network but said that as for himself, he would at least listen before making any decisions.
This is a tough situation, as “Inside The NBA” has been a stable of NBA telecasts for decades and not having Barkley, Ernie, Kenny Smith, and Shaquille O’Neal in our lives would put a seismic dent in NBA coverage.
Other networks have tried to replicate the chemistry the four of them have, and nobody has ever gotten close.
Hopefully, some network comes in and saves the day with a last-second Hail Mary, because it’s tough to envision a future for the league that doesn’t include this show.
