The NFL offseason is always a busy time for the defending Super Bowl champions, and that has been the case once again for the Kansas City Chiefs, with the team coming off another title run under head coach Andy Reid with Patrick Mahomes leading the way under center.

One of the most challenging jobs in the NFL for a general manager is keeping a championship roster intact, and that’s precisely what Brett Veach has had to do this offseason, with his attention now turning to securing the long-term future of defensive tackle Chris Jones.

Veach recently talked about the contract extension talks with Jones and his representation and the current status of those talks, which seems like it will likely be a long process via Rob Collins of Fox 4 Kansas City.

Although the Chiefs are one organization with the unique ability to figure things out with or without star players, Jones is vital to the team’s success on the defensive side of the football and seems to be a priority for Kansas City.

Jones is coming off arguably his best season yet in Kansas City, with the Mississippi State product tying a career-high for sacks with 15.5 while playing in all 17 regular-season games and being named First-Team All-Pro for the first time in his career.

Clearly, Jones is crucial to the team’s success on the defensive side of the football and is likely in line to become a very wealthy man if he and the Chiefs can see eye to eye on a new deal.
