The Boston Celtics are the new NBA champions, and that’s all their fans and players care about.
Nonetheless, there was also an underlying narrative about their potential win, which was which player would end up winning NBA Finals MVP.
For years, people have tried to make a case for Jaylen Brown being a better player than Jayson Tatum, and while that has been pretty much irrelevant for the Celtics organization, they can celebrate now.
As shown by NBA Communications on Twitter, Brown got seven of the eleven votes for Finals MVP, with Tatum getting the other four.

Truth be told, this could’ve gone either way, as Tatum’s averages were slightly better than Brown’s.
Still, Brown was fairly more consistent throughout the course of the playoffs and even during this series, with Tatum picking up the slack in Games 3 and 5.
Brown also took home Eastern Conference Finals MVP honors, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s the best player, nor does it matter at all.
If anything, these two young stars have found a way to feed off each other and not only coexist but actually thrive together.
That not only says a lot about their competitive drive but also about their personalities, as they haven’t let their egos get in their way.
