The Los Angeles Lakers coaching search has dragged on far too long and has stolen headlines away from much more important topics, namely the NBA Finals, but we might be getting close to some resolution to finally put this story to bed.

One name after another has dropped out of the race, leaving a strong belief about the future of one obvious candidate who has been in the mix since Day 1.

Lakers insider Anthony Irwin shared that Los Angeles is expected to hire JJ Redick as their next head coach, a decision that should be surprising to absolutely nobody.

As soon as Redick’s name surfaced early in the coaching search, it made sense given his obvious connection to LeBron James, as the two co-host the Mind The Game podcast that launched months ago.

Redick won fans over via podcasting and his announcing/media career since retiring, as he clearly demonstrated a thoughtful passion for basketball that could translate well to coaching.

The Lakers reportedly were looking to hire a younger option who could serve as their own version of Erik Spoelstra.

They apparently want a younger guy who will stick around for a long time, which is particularly important given how much turnover the Lakers have had in the coaching department over the last few years.

The problem is that Redick has no coaching experience, and hiring him could draw comparisons to the Brooklyn Nets hiring Steve Nash a few years ago, but Nash at least had experience as an assistant coach.

Redick to the Lakers feels imminent, and it will be interesting to see how this situation unfolds.
