The 2021 NFL Draft will not soon be forgotten.
The first three picks of this draft were highly touted quarterbacks, but two of those three quarterbacks are already on new teams.
Zach Wilson was taken No. 2 overall, but he is now a member of the Denver Broncos due to a suboptimal start with the New York Jets.
Trey Lance also struggled to gain traction with the San Francisco 49ers, partially due to a few injuries he suffered in the early stages of his career.
Lance is now a member of the Dallas Cowboys, where he could be Dak Prescott’s backup.
Some young quarterbacks might be discouraged to be relegated to a backup role this early in their career, but Lance seems to have a positive attitude.
As Lance said in a quote shared by the Cowboys’ website, “[My confidence] is much higher than it was when I got to the NFL, for sure.”
Lance is surrounded by a veteran QB in Prescott and several great teammates and coaches to help him grow and develop.
He might have a clear path to starting on this team in the next few seasons, but he can at least work on his game in the process.
The NFL is a crazy league, and you never know when you’ll get called into a starting role.
Brock Purdy is a great example of this, as he was the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft but is now an esteemed quarterback for the 49ers.
Can Lance have a similar rise in value in the coming seasons?
